How to Sign In to Your CRA Account (My Account): Steps and Fixes
Go to the official "Sign in to your CRA account" page on canada.ca, choose the same sign-in option you registered with (your bank, a CRA user ID and password, or a B.C./Alberta provincial partner), then enter your one-time passcode. Stuck? The troubleshooter below gives the CRA's fix for your exact problem.

Which sign-in option should I use?
| Option | Good to know |
|---|---|
| Sign-In Partner | Uses the sign-in from your online banking. No separate CRA user ID to remember. |
| CRA user ID and password | A user ID (8 to 16 characters) and password (8 to 64 characters) you create with the CRA, plus security questions for recovery. |
| Provincial partner | Available in British Columbia and Alberta only. |
The option doesn't change what you can see in your account. What matters is that you use the same one every time.
First time? Register
Choose Register for a CRA account on the official sign-in page. You will confirm your identity either online with the CRA's document verification service, or with a CRA security code sent to you by mail. You will also set up multi-factor authentication. The CRA encourages everyone to add a backup passcode method.
Locked out or forgot everything?
If you've lost access because you forgot your credentials, the CRA says you can register again for a new credential without calling. For anything else, use the troubleshooter above or call the CRA at 1-800-959-8281 (Monday to Friday, 8 am to 8 pm Eastern time).
Step by step
-
Open the official CRA sign-in page.
Type canada.ca into your browser yourself or use the official link on this page. To stay safe, don't sign in from a link in an email or text message.
-
Choose the sign-in option you registered with.
Sign-In Partner (your online banking), CRA user ID and password, or Provincial partner (British Columbia and Alberta only). It has to be the same option you used when you registered.
-
Enter your sign-in details on that page.
With a Sign-In Partner, you sign in on your bank's page and are sent back to the CRA. Use your own banking sign-in only, and avoid autofill on shared computers.
-
Enter your one-time passcode.
The CRA uses multi-factor authentication: a passcode by phone, a passcode grid, or an authenticator app.
-
Choose your account.
Once signed in you can reach My Account, My Business Account or Represent a Client. If you are signing in for someone else, you must use Represent a Client.

Frequently asked questions
Is this the CRA sign-in page?
No. North Help Desk is an independent guide. To sign in, use the official CRA sign-in page on canada.ca, linked at the top of this page. Never enter your CRA details on any other website.
Can I sign in to the CRA with my bank?
Yes. Choose "Sign-In Partner" and sign in with your online banking. If you first registered with a CRA user ID, you need to revoke it and register again with a Sign-In Partner to switch.
What happens if I enter the wrong passcode too many times?
You are locked out for 30 minutes. After three lockouts the lockout becomes permanent and you must contact the CRA.
My security code never arrived. What now?
If it hasn't arrived after 10 business days, you can use the CRA's document verification service instead, or contact the CRA to have a new code mailed to you.
