Editorial policy

This policy explains how North Help Desk writes, checks and updates its guides.

Our rules

  1. Official sources only. Facts (eligibility, amounts, dates, phone numbers, sign-in steps) come from the government department that runs the service, usually canada.ca. Each guide lists its sources.
  2. Answer first. Every guide starts with a short, direct answer, then the steps.
  3. Dated. Each guide shows a "Last verified" date: the day we last checked every fact on the page against its sources.
  4. Official links go straight to the government. We never send you through redirects, link shorteners or look-alike sites.
  5. No personal data. We never ask for it, and our tools are built so they can't collect it.
  6. Plain language. Short sentences, everyday words, and terms explained the first time they appear.

Updates

We re-check phone numbers and hours every quarter, benefit amounts whenever the government publishes new rates, and every page at least once a year. When a program changes or ends, we update or retire the guide.

Corrections

If you find a mistake, contact us. We fix confirmed errors quickly and update the "Last verified" date.

Independence

North Help Desk is not affiliated with any government. We don't accept payment to change what a guide says.
