About North Help Desk

North Help Desk is a free, independent guide to Canadian government accounts, services and benefits. We explain how things work in plain language, step by step, and send you to the official government page to actually do them.

What we are

• An information website, written for people who find government websites hard to navigate.
• Free to use, with no sign-up.
• Independent: we are not part of, funded by or endorsed by the Government of Canada, the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), Service Canada or any provincial government.

What we are not

• We are not a government website and we cannot see, change or speed up your file.
• We do not apply for benefits or passports on your behalf, and we never charge for help.
• We never ask for your social insurance number (SIN), passwords, banking details, date of birth or any other personal information. Our tools run in your browser and don't collect anything.

How we keep it accurate

Every guide is checked against the official government pages it links to, and shows the date it was last verified. Read our editorial policy and how we check our facts.
