How to Change Your Address With the CRA
The fastest way is online: sign in to your CRA account, go to Profile, Contact information, Edit, and the change is immediate. You can also call 1-800-959-8281 (same day) or mail Form RC325 (4 to 6 weeks). The CRA does not pass your new address to other departments.
Other ways
- Phone (same day): 1-800-959-8281. Have your SIN, full name, date of birth, complete address, and a notice of assessment or other tax document.
- Mail (4 to 6 weeks): Form RC325, Address and Telephone Number Change Request.
- On a paper return or a return filed through a tax preparer (about 8 weeks). You can't change your address with NETFILE.
Changing it for someone else
Online you must be their legal representative using Represent a Client. By phone, the person must be on the call to give permission, unless you are their legal representative.
Step by step
- Sign in to your CRA account and select your Individual account.
- Go to Profile, then Contact information, then Edit.
- Enter your new address and submit. It updates right away.
-
Update other departments yourself.
The CRA will not share your change of address with other government departments, so tell Service Canada and your province separately.
