How to Set Up or Change CRA Direct Deposit
Sign in to your CRA account, open Profile and edit Direct deposit, or sign up through your Canadian bank or credit union. Online changes take effect the next business day. Direct deposit can no longer be set up by phone, and a mailed form can take 3 months or longer.
Other ways to sign up
- Through your bank or credit union: many offer it in online banking. You must have filed a tax return first. Takes effect the next business day.
- By mail: the Canada direct deposit enrolment form, which can take up to 3 months or longer.
- By phone: no longer available.
What it covers
CRA payments: tax refunds and benefits like the Canada child benefit. CPP, OAS and EI are paid by Service Canada and use Government of Canada direct deposit separately.
Only Canadian bank and credit union accounts are accepted. If a payment went to the wrong account, wait 10 business days after the payment date before contacting the CRA.
Step by step
- Sign in to your CRA account and select your Individual account.
- Choose Profile and scroll to Direct deposit.
-
Select Edit and enter your new banking information.
The change takes effect the next business day after you consent.
