What Is Line 15000 on Your Tax Return? (Total Income)
Line 15000 is your total income: everything you earned from all sources in the year (employment, pensions, investments, self-employment and other income) before any deductions. Deductions are then subtracted to get your net income (line 23600) and taxable income (line 26000).
What's included
Employment income, pension income, investment income, self-employment income and income from other sources all add up to line 15000.
What's not included
Non-taxable amounts such as GST/HST credit or Canada child benefit payments, lottery winnings, and most gifts and inheritances are not part of line 15000.
Where to find yours
Your notice of assessment shows the main lines of your return, including line 15000. You can view it in CRA My Account.
Why it matters
The CRA asks for your line 15000 amount to confirm your identity when you recover a forgotten CRA user ID, so keep your latest notice of assessment handy.
